Back in the silver age (mid 90’s) of AmRep industries we had a side hustle going called Smoke King Zippos. We licensed the very best underground artists from across the spectrum and had their images manufactured onto American made high quality Zippo lighters at the Zippo mfg plant in NY. We had a pretty sizable direct to retail sales operation for our records, and sold these Smoke King (later Flamerite) lighters through that network. It was fun as shit as at the time most these artist were almost never afforded merchandising opportunities and finding cutting edge cool art on Zippos wasn’t happening either.
This chugged on for a few years and the idea of collecting all the designs we’d done into a slick coffee table art book struck. Old pal Adam Parfrey (RIP) from Feral House loved the idea as well and agreed to publish it. It’s a swank hardcover book and I’m not gonna lie, doing a majority of the design layout work on it was some of the most ball busting work I’ve done to date. Cover was CSA, but interior and all else was HAZE XXL.
Punchline… we’ve uncovered a batch of these books and paired them up with other warehouse Smoke King Zippo ephemera finds. 10 page 1999 glossy catalog, Flamerite name change postcard/sticker, as well as a postcard from the book launch signing party held at WACKO/ La Luz De Jesus in LA. A really cool time capsule of that entire project.
Scorched Art documents the graphic history of Flame Rite Zippo lighters, photography from the award winning CSA Design. It includes Big Daddy Roth, R. Crumb, Daniel Clowes, and many more. Also exclusive art from the likes of Robt. Williams, Tony Millionaire, Shag, Coop, Peter Bagge, Biskup, Shepard Fairey, and many more.
These are for presale and ships starting on 2/16/2026. We’ll be making up this one time batch according to presales and then that’s it. Enjoy!
